Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are also termed as pit and fissure sealants. Dental sealants are used to prevent tooth decay. Teeth have recesses on their biting surfaces; the back teeth have fissures (grooves) and some front teeth have cingulum pits. These pits and fissures are most vulnerable to tooth decay as food and bacteria stick in them and they are hard to clean. Dental sealants help to create smooth surface which is easy to clean. It is mainly used in children, and are usually placed as soon as the adult molar teeth come through.
